Roof Rocks™ is a lightweight mulching system for green roofs that carefully manages water and nutrients for more vigorous plant growth, maximizing the benefits from your living roof. In addition to stronger and more resilient plant growth, Roof Rocks™ allows foot access to the roof without worrying about disturbing the soil. Roof Rocks™ tiles feature a natural looking surface molded from the rocky outcroppings of the ecosystem that served as inspiration for this product.

The Roof Rocks™ system utilizes light-weight, connected tiles that mimic an arid prairie ecosystem called a glade. Prairie Glades have a protective layer of solid rock at the soil surface that shields the soil underneath from sun and wind, conserving soil moisture.

Plants in the glades grow where the cap rock is cracked, and have a protected water supply from which to grow. Roof Rocks™ mimic this strategy with meandering, linked gaps between each tile. The meandering paths force water to slow down and infiltrate into the soil where it can be used by plants. This judicious use of water allows irrigation to be severely reduced or eliminated after plants are established.

Roof Rocks™ are made of lightweight concrete. While we recognize that cement is not the most sustainable product, we source our cement from less than 20 miles away to reduce the carbon emissions from transport, and have incorporated recycled latex paint into our concrete.

We are constantly trying to reduce the environmental impact of our products and services by trying new ingredients and striving to increase the longevity of roofs. The most sustainable roof is the one that has to be replaced far less frequently.
